Project Clean Water Africa

Focus: Clean Water for Rural Uganda

83% of Uganda’s population — that’s over 38 million people — does not have access to a reliable, safely managed source of water. This crisis affects health, education, safety, and opportunity.

For nearly a decade, our team has partnered with community leaders across Uganda to provide clean, sustainable water sources to remote villages. Each well we drill — also known as a borehole — serves between 1,000 and 4,000 people, transforming lives and entire communities.

You can help us change lives.

💧 One Well.
Countless Lives Changed.

The cost to drill and install a clean water well in Uganda is $7,000 USD. This includes:

Every detail is accounted for to ensure long-term, safe access to clean water. And 100% of your donation is used to offset these costs.

Additional Water-Related Services

Drilled wells-$7,000 USD

A professional team uses a drilling rig to tap into an underground aquifer and then caps the well with a hand pump (included) or solar pump (additional cost). Ugandan skilled technicians conduct a hydrology survey to identify the optimal drilling location. Technicians from Stefro Technologies, who are trained and experienced in Uganda, oversee the drilling and construction of the borehole. We also provide maintenance training to help communities care for the equipment and manage the well.

Bio-sand Filters-$150 USD

Layers of sand, gravel, and a microbial layer remove 99% of harmful bacteria from the water poured into them. A BSF requires minimal maintenance and can serve up to 15 people. Families usually keep it at home for daily use.

Rehabilitations-$300 - $1,000 USD (depending on the repair)

Some communities have abandoned or damaged nearby water projects. It's often more cost-effective to repair and upgrade these existing systems. We also offer maintenance training to help communities avoid future failures.

Rainwater Collection System (Based on size of the structure and collection tank)

Areas that experience heavy seasonal rainfall can capture and store natural rainwater. Rooftop gutters direct rain into pipes that lead to a holding tank for a community, school, or clinic to use over time.

Our Approach

We work with local partners to fund and sustain water, sanitation, and bio-sand filtration for rural communities in Uganda.

Our Commitment

Step 1 (Planning): Our local partners select water point locations based on a variety of factors, including assessment of need, community participation, and long-term sustainability.

Step 2 (Implementation): Local partners establish community buy-in and train a water maintenance committee to manage the project.

Step 3 (Post-implementation): To ensure the sustainability of the water project, we train and empower local leaders to maintain the water project and the structures that protect it. Stefro Technologies is available to conduct maintenance checks and repairs when needed.

Wells We've Already Drilled

Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, these villages now have access to clean water:

Make a Lasting Impact

Every donation — large or small — brings us closer to another completed well, another village empowered, another child safe from waterborne disease.

Give today. Save lives. Build hope.
